PURPOSE

The industrial, manufacturing, service and retail firms in the KEBIC service area form the economic base that keeps our community fiscally sound and provides employment opportunities for residents. KEBIC is a strong voice for the Kennedy Industrial corridor and general business community on Belmont, Elston, Irving Park and Kedzie. The KEBIC board, staff and member companies significantly aid the future success, development and expansion of area industrial and commercial business.

MISSION

Our mission is to provide companies in the Kedzie-Elston area the services and support they need to prosper and grow. To succeed at this mission, KEBIC places special emphasis on workforce development, infrastructure improvements, and facilitating / solving City of Chicago Service Issues

PROFILE

The Kedzie Elston Business Industrial Council (KEBIC) was incorporated April 1996, as a organization of businesses near the intersection of Kedzie and Elston Avenues in Chicago’s 33rd Ward. The main issues driving company participation were crime, graffiti, litter and access to city services.

In January of 1997, KEBIC received its first contract from the City of Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development (DPD) under the Commercial program to provide services to area companies. In June, KEBIC’s first full-time Executive Director, Michael Cevasco, focused on resolving service problems for companies. KEBIC then developed relationships with several area worker training providers, and established working relationships between local businesses and Education to Careers Programs (ETC) of the local public high schools. KEBIC received its first LIRI Contract in 2003.
